Every wonder how Mary keeps her skin so flawless? Well, she sat down with skincare expert, Renée Rouleau, for Refinery29 to discuss her beauty regimen:
Do you have a specific skin care beauty routine? Any advice on keeping skin beautiful from what you eat and what you do to care for it?
“My good friend Amanda Crew turned me on to [your products], and they have been an absolute life saver for me! I start with Renée Rouleau face wash, then toner, then the Renée Rouleau Vitamin C & E Treatment, followed by a good sunscreen and moisturizer. Although I don’t always adhere to it, staying out of the sun and remembering to always wear sunscreen is the best tip to follow. And, drink lots of water! I can instantly tell a difference in my skin when I’m dehydrated.”
She also spoke on some of her upcoming project:
Tell me about some of the exciting projects you have in the works.
“I’m juggling a few things at the moment — I just wrapped a pilot with Logan Marshall Green called Quarry. I also just wrapped a film with Jeremy Renner called Kill the Messenger that I’m very excited about. I have an album coming out this January with Dan the Automator. We call ourselves Got a Girl and you can follow us on Twitter @Got_a_Girl. We’ll be releasing some singles this fall.

VF Daily: How much of a say did you have in casting the film?
James Ponsoldt: Huge say. All the people were the people that I wanted. I wouldn’t make a movie with actors I didn’t love. It was collaboration—we work with casting directors, we work with the producers. But no, these were all people that I adore and have wanted to work with. Shailene since The Descendants, Miles I had seen in Rabbit Hole and Footloose. Brie [Larson] since Rampart and 21 Jump Street. Dayo [Okeniyi] was a discovery. He’s amazing.
And Mary Elizabeth Winstead?
Yes! The star of my last movie.
Is she your muse?
[Laughs] She certainly was for Smashed. She and her husband are an aesthetic ideal of romance personified, and in that regard romance is alive. They’re a muse to my antiquated notions of romance.

Notable role: Kate Hannah in Smashed (2012)
If you happen to drive down Beverly Blvd. on Friday night, around midnight, take note of the long line for Edgar Wright’s cult hit Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World. The girl those movie nerds are there to see? Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Ramona Flowers. As the girl with a shit ton of baggage—Scott Pilgrim literally has to fight off her seven evil ex-boyfriends—Winstead coolly oscillates between frustrating nonchalance and glimmers of guilt.
Winstead has already established herself as a fanboy’s favorite actress, but thanks to a convincing performance in James Ponsoldt’s festival hit Smashed, in which she plays a recovering alcoholic, crusty critics are remembering her name.
Mary has lined up another film role and we couldn’t be prouder. She will be joining Jeremy Renner in “Kill the Messenger.”
The actress will play Dawn Garcia in the true-story thriller about journalist Gary Webb and his suicide after being smeared for stories he wrote linking the CIA to a scheme to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua and import cocaine into California. Winstead’s character is the editor of the San Jose Mercury News, where Webb worked.

Mary is keeping herself nice and busy these days. She has “Quarry,” The Untitled Chris Messina Project, Got A Girl’s debut album and now she will be starring in her husband, Riley Stearns’ movie Faults. Here is some of the project info via Deadline:
Winstead is on board with Faults, her husband Riley Stearns’ next directorial project. The actress will play a young cult member whose parents hire an expert to deprogram her but the expert begins to think they might be more of a threat than the cult. Produced by Snoot Entertainment, Faults is scheduled to start shooting later this year.
We are so excited for both Mary and Riley on this new project!
